Our world is the source of our adventures. Whether that's climbing a tall mountain, paddling over a shimmering lake, strolling through a dense forest - Earth is the most incredible playground we could possibly imagine. Sadly the magic of our planet will disappear unless we create a responsible environmental future. It's up to us to preserve it for ourselves and generations to come.
Sustainability
Protect The World We Explore.
We Commit to Sustainability Now.
Over the next three years, we will incorporate sustainable practices into 100% of NxTSTOP’s supply chain and product offering. We seek to minimize new potential waste in the ecosystem while operating via reportable and ethical practices.
Sustainability is a journey.
While our goal is to become 100% sustainable, we recognized right away that sustainability is a complex journey that is ever-changing. It is not accomplished overnight, nor without significant investment, partnership and experimentation.
Prioritizing sustainability is the commitment NxTSTOP makes now. Achieving our goals will be the result of multi-year planning, adaptation, and teamwork not just within our business, but inclusive of our wide range of suppliers on multiple continents. What follows below is NxTSTOP’s three-pronged approach to sustainability.
For details about our progress to date, see individual yearly reports:
NxTSTOP Sustainability Principles
Eco-Friendly Materials
Wherever possible, we use recycled, organic, and biodegradable fabrics, trims, and dyes to reduce impact.
Ethical, Efficient Production
We work with factories that utilize methods to reduce energy and water waste alongside responsible working conditions.
Compostable Packaging
We partner with NoIssue, a leader in package sustainability, to provide environmentally friendly, 100% compostable or recycled plastic mailers.
Eco-Friendly Materials
We select fabric and trims in order of priority by what is: recycled, organic, non-organic biodegradable and lastly virgin synthetic. In short, utilizing recycled materials (like recycled polyester rPET) is typically less “environmentally expensive” than creating virgin fabrics or trims, but does have limitations. We therefore strongly prefer biodegradable materials that are completely organic (i.e., do not require harmful pesticides or treatment for growth) or minimize chemical treatment and waste. Wherever possible we will avoid net new synthetic fibers or minimize their composition in products, with the long-term goal to completely discontinue virgin synthetic fabric use by 2021.
Ethical, Efficient Production
We want to produce clothing using the lowest amount of energy, water, and chemical treatment possible in working conditions that are safe and legal. In reality, there are several shades completeness regarding these aspects of production. Where possible we work with suppliers holding universally accepted certification such as Bluesign, Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX, or STeP by OEKO-TEX. In practice, we rely on trusted relationships and visits with our suppliers to validate how they conform to sustainable production.
Less Wasteful Packaging
Noissue mailers are made from a combination of corn-based biopolymers that compost in 6 months (180 days). They are certified for both home and commercial compost. Most importantly, they leave no harmful traces behind. Learn more.
NxTSTOP is part of an alliance
And we're helping to reforest
As part of Noissue's Eco-Packaging Alliance, NxTSTOP is also directly contributing to global reforestation. Each order of mailers contributes to the planting of a new tree around the world. See details.
